Vision Quiz - Are you 'vision smart'?

Age-related vision loss affects 1 in 28 Americans over the age of 40.

Do you know how to protect your precious eyesight?

Take this quick true/false quiz and see how ‘vision smart’ you are:

Vision Quiz:

1. Spinach is the best food for your eyes. (T/F)

2. Staring at a computer screen all day doesn’t damage your sight. (T/F)

3. Eye doctors always include a glaucoma test as part of a routine eye exam. (T/F)

4. Sunglasses labeled ‘Blocks harmful UV rays’ insures full coverage. (T/F)

5. Sugary foods make your eyes vulnerable to age-related macular degeneration. (T/F)

Answers to Vision Quiz

1. FALSE. Spinach is a vision booster but a variety of veggies is a vision necessity. The leading cause of blindness (age-related macular degeneration) can be cut by 35% with a sufficient intake of zinc, vitamins C and E, and beta-carotene. Seek out carrots, broccoli and spinach. Omega-3 intake is important for healthy eyes too.
Don’t always eat enough veggies or get enough omega-3’s? Discuss with your eye care provider, adding them to your routine in supplement form. OneLifeUSA’s Vision Guard and Super Flaxseed + Greens are excellent choices!

2. TRUE. A long day staring at the computer screen can result in temporarily blurry vision. The main cause is not blinking enough, resulting in dry eyes. Eyedrops can help.

3. FALSE. Not all eye exams include pupil dialation, which is necessary to test for glaucoma. Gone undetected and untreated, glaucoma can result in blindness – so make sure this test is included in your next eye exam.

4. FALSE. Merely filtering isn’t good enough. It’s important to note how much UVA and UVB the lenses filter. A good pair will filter 99 to 100%. This is key because harmful rays can burn corneas, which can cause cataracts (among other vision damage).

5. TRUE. Foods that cause blood sugar to spike quickly, such as white bread and sugary snacks may contribute to AMD. Researchers are still studying why this effect is showing up – so it’s best for your vision protection to just avoid these foods.
