Flaxseed-

It has been firmly established that eating more vegetables can help reduce the risk of certain types of cancer as well as provide us with a balance of essential vitamins and nutrients that will enhance our health.  And we all know that striving to get five to nine servings a day is one of the best ways to take charge of your health. Unfortunately, studies show that this seemingly simple task is only accomplished on a day-to-day basis by a small percentage of Americans.

To help increase your veggie intake, OneLife has selected a special blend of specifically chosen vegetable powders to be included in our Super Flaxseed + Greens formula.  These greens include the following with a brief description detailing their individual significance.<top>

Greens

  1. Chlorella – Chlorella is specially cultivated green algae known as one of the best sources of natural chlorophyll and fiber.  This power-packed whole food source provides 19 amino acids including all 8 of the essential amino acids.  Chlorella also includes a host of vitamins and minerals in addition to being a potent source of protein.
  2. Spirulina - This tiny aquatic plant is considered one of the world’s healthiest foods; rich in beta carotene and phytonutrients offering 60% all-vegetable protein, essential vitamins, the rare essential fatty acid GLA, sulfolipids, glycolipids and polysaccharides. Its deep green color comes from its rainbow of natural pigments - chlorophyll (green), phycocyanin (blue) and carotenoids (orange) - that harvest the sun's energy.  It is easy-to-digest so the nutrients are absorbed quickly.
  3. Alfalfa Juice Extract – The alfalfa plant has a deep root system to help pull valuable minerals from the soil.  It is one of the richest sources of all minerals necessary for good health. It is especially rich in calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and iron in their most digestible forms. Alfalfa also contains fluoride in a natural form and most beneficial trace minerals, fiber, all vitamins including vitamin A as beta carotene, B6, B12, C, D, E, and K, and essential fatty acids.
  4. Barley Grass and Juice Powder – Barley is one of the first cereal grains to be cultivated by man.  There are written crop reports from Egypt that date back to 2440 B.C.  It was considered a gift from the Gods and thought to be sacred.  Today, barley grass is thought to contain perhaps the most balanced nutrient profile of all green plants with an abundance of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, proteins, active enzymes, and chlorophyll.
  5. Broccoli Powder Lately more and more attention has been given to broccoli. A naturally occurring compound in broccoli (present in high levels), Glucoraphanin, also known as sulforaphane glucosinolate (SGS), has already shown to fight cancer in cells, and may also be able to reduce the risk of high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and stroke, according to a new study
  6. Brussels Sprouts Powder Brussels sprouts have many beneficial phytochemicals and have shown to have anti-cancer effects and are a good source of folate, vitamin C and iron
  7. Kale Powder – Kale is a form of cabbage and as a vegetable has not received much publicity for it’s health benefits.  Most people don’t know that kale has more vitamin C per cup than an orange and more beta-carotene than carrots.  In addition it is an excellent source of calcium and is high in phytochemicals.  Throw in some folic acid and you have what may just be the perfect vegetable – that no one’s heard of.
  8. Spinach Powder – Spinach was first made popular by Popeye, the sailor man.  And it turns out he knew what he was talking about.  As a vegetable, it is loaded with vitamins and nutrients and shown to be an excellent source of vitamin A, vitamin C and Folate. Spinach contains high levels of potassium and folate. Spinach may reduce the risk of cancer, helps to avoid and relieve anemia and may protect against eye degeneration and heart disease.
Wheat Grass and Juice Powder – Wheat grass has become quite popular over the past decade and packs quite the ‘nutrient punch’.  It is an excellent source of chlorophyll, contains over a dozen amino acids, and is rich in many minerals (such as: magnesium, calcium, potassium and phosphorus).  It is also a great natural source of many vitamins, to include; A, C, E and K and a host of B vitamins.<top>
